How to Renovate on a Budget and Increase Your Home’s Value

If you’re not in a position to work with an Interior Designer, and want to create a better living environment for you and your family, my recommendation would be to renovate in stages. Approaching work like this is easier to manage on a smaller scale and allows you to keep control of your budget.

Family rooms are spaces I love to design because this is a room everyone spends time in together besides the kitchen.  I feel strongly that if you are considering renovating your home in stages, this would be one of the first rooms I would do. On a smaller scale, if you have an enclosed porch you’re really not using, you could convert it into your new family room. This is not only cost effective but also adds value.

Before (sorry, not a great shot!)

In the following project, we took an enclosed porch and winterized it to become a beautiful family room space to gather. My clients wanted a room where they could host football viewing parties with extended family or be a space for their kids to hang out with their friends. We used a sectional to accommodate the immediate family and created wrap around window seats when there’s a crowd.  The window seats are nice if they want a quiet place to read a book in the sunlight too.

The Reveal! We just love how this former sunroom became a gorgeous living space.

If you like what you’ve seen in this project from a design perspective and feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to curating your final room decor, maybe a room collection from Rooms by Rivoli will help with some ideas. They are all my curated designs but you have control over timeline, project management and which items you purchase. Who knows, it may be something that works for you!
